Rutgers’ Anna Vlachou Excels at Greek Championships; Qualifies for Europeans

Rutgers swimming and diving rising senior Anna Vlachou had a strong performance at the Greek National Swimming Championships last week. Vlachou set a pair of Greek national records for U-23, doing so in the 50-meter butterfly with a time of 26.31 and a 55.03 in the 100 freestyle.

Vlachou won the gold medal in the butterfly, swimming a European Championships qualifying time. With the qualifying performance, Vlachou will compete later this summer at the European Championships in Paris.

“It was a very good time,” Vlachou said in a post-swim interview with Athlead. “I had done a pretty good job in America where I’m studying now and was excited for the chance to come to Greece to swim the 50. Now I want to continue to try for something better at the European Championships.”

Vlachou had three top-three swims during the meet. In addition to winning the 50 fly, the native of Athens placed second in the 100 free and was in third place in the 100 fly.

Vlachou had a strong 2026 campaign in her first season as a Scarlet Knight as a transfer from Nebraska. Her season was highlighted as she set two new school records at the Big Ten Championships, in the 100 free and 100 fly, while swimming the second fastest 50 free time in school history. She made the A Final at Big Tens in the 100 fly.
