MOSCOW – Russian swimming has announced its roster for the World Short Course Championships.  Overall, 36 athletes (21 men and 15 women) will represent Russia in Doha, Dec. 3-7.

There are a few surprises to the roster.  Reigning world champion Vlad Morozov is not entered in the 100 free, while Sergey Fesikov will also not compete in the 100 free even though he’s ranked sixth in the event this year with a 46.67. Both will swim the 50 free and 100 IM, as well as serve relay duty.  Another team leader, Danila Izotov, is entered in the 100 free and 200 free.  He clocked a 46.49 in the 100 free for fourth in the world rankings, while taking the top spot in the rankings in the 200 free (1:41.48) during Russian Nationals.

Stanislav Donets, a 31-year-old veteran, made a successful comeback after two years of battling with various injuries.  Donets is entered in the 100 back, where he took silver behind Matt Grevers of the U.S. at the last World Short Course Championships in Istanbul.

Anastasia Lyaveza, who broke the Russian record in the 50 fly in semifinals, but failed to meet the qualification standard in finals, still made the team based on her overall performance.  She’s likely to be in the medley relay as well.
