Psych Sheets Released For Australian Champs; Kaylee McKeown Among the Headliners

This past week featured qualifying for the World Championships in Japan and Great Britain, and the championship season will continue to be active in the coming weeks. The psych sheets for the Australian Championships have been released, and while there could be some changes to the entry lists, we have a good idea of who will focus on which events.

Not surprising, the women’s 100-meter freestyle is absolutely stacked, with Olympic champion Emma McKeon headlining a field that will also include reigning world champ, Mollie O’Callaghan, former world-record holder Cate Campbell and Shayna Jack. Meanwhile, Ariarne Titmus will have the chance to respond to the recent world-record assault of Canadian Summer McIntosh in the 400 freestyle. It was Titmus’ global standard that McIntosh broke.

Kaylee McKeown is slated to contest the 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke and 200 individual medley. McKeown recently broke the world record in the 200 backstroke, and more fireworks can be expected by the multi-time Olympic champion.

On the men’s side, 2016 Olympic titlist Kyle Chalmers will go to work in the 100 freestyle as the top seed. Chalmers will get the chance to chase the top time in the world, which is currently held at 47.61 by Romanian teenager David Popovici. Chalmers is also entered in the 200 freestyle.

Zac Stubblety-Cook will be another to watch, as he is the world-record holder and Olympic champ in the 200 breaststroke.

Here is the link to the complete entry lists:

The Australian trials for the world championships are being held from June 13-18. The coming event is the Australian championships , NOT the trials for the world championships. The national championship placings have no direct bearing on qualification for the world championships. Sorry but the article above is incorrect.

FYI – these championships are simply the Australian Swimming Championships, not the selection trials for the upcoming World Championships. It is however a selection meet for the World Para Swimming Championships. The trials for the Fukuoka World Championships team will be held from June 13-18.
It appears as though Kaylee McKeown is not racing the 200m backstroke at this event too.

McKeown is not entered in the 200 back. Chalmers is doing some butterfly as well. You might need to read the psych sheets again.
