On the cover

In a nearly textbook example of stroke technique, 200 freestyle world record holder Sippy Woodhead of the Mission Viejo Nadadores shows the underwater pulling pattern of a champion swimmer. Woodhead’s hand enters the water at point “A” and exits at point “Z”.

The correct application of force and the position of the body in the water are the study of swimming biomechanists. Some of the top experts in the field present their findings in this issue of SWIMMING TECHNIQUE, beginning on page 13.
