Meg Stanley, Andrew Wilson Headline CoSIDA Academic All-America Division III At-Large Teams

Swimming seniors Meg Stanley and Andrew Wilson lead the 2017 Academic-All America Division III At-Large teams that were named this week by the College Sports Information Directors of American.

Both swimmers were National Champions this spring while representing Illinois Wesleyan and Emory, respectively. In addition, they completed successful academic careers this spring, meeting the minimum qualifications for the award: “with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.”

They are just two of a total of an impressive 35 swimmers named to the At-Large team for Division III. There were 15 men and 20 women named.

Joining Wilson on the men’s first team are Kenyon’s Arthur Conover and Trevor Manz, Johns Hopkins’ Andrew Freenhalgh, Wash U’s Michael Lagieski, Denison’s Jack Lindell, Calvin’s Brett Stoughton, and Washington and Jefferson’s Nicholas Willison. All are seniors.

Three seniors and a junior snagged spots on the second team. Emory’s Hayes Burdette-Sapp, Case Western’s Andrew Henning, WPI’s Tim Petri, and Denison’s junior Jason Wesseling were named.

Rounding out the third team wer WPI sophomore Jack Bauer, and juniors Tommy Thetford of Washington and Lee and Joshua Tomazin of MIT.

For the women, nine earned spots on the first team. Denison teammates Campbell Costley and Carolyn Kane joined Emory teammates Marissa Bergh and Marcela Sanchez-Aizcorbe, and fellow seniors Veronika Jedryka of MIT, Shanny Lin of RPI, and Stanley. Juniors Julia Wilson of Kenyon and Elite 90 Award Winner Kaitlin Wingert of Messiah completed the first team.

Kenyon’s Ellis Crawford, Grove City’s Abby Jank, and St. Thomas’ Emma Paulson were seniors named to the second team. National Champion diver Maura Sticco-Ivins of Wellesley and Wash U’s Nicole Zanolli were the juniors on the second team.

Three juniors, Calvin’s Sarah Bradley, Williams’ Emma Waddell, and Carnegie Mellon’s Kim Hochstedler, are on the third team. Seniors MariMac Collins of Wash U, Caroline Conboy of William Smith, and Emily Simon of Rochester are also on the third team this year.
