Louisville Claims Three Meet Records in Day Two of SMU Classic

Day two of the 22nd annual SMU Classic invitational saw another three meet records fall. The women of Louisville topped the competition with a total of 363 points. Missouri and UCLA tied for second at 303 with FSU (264), SMU (244), and TCU (197) rounding out the competition.

The Cardinal relay team of Alina Kendzior (25.34), Andrea Cottrell (27.26), Kelsi Worrell (23.16) and Andrea Kneppers (22.49) kicked off the meet with a new meet record of 1:38.25 in the 200 medley relay.

Cottrell threw down another meet record in the 200 breaststroke with a final time of 2:08.63. Cottrell’s time is the fastest in the event for the NCAA so far this season.

Worrell continued her dynamite performance in the 100 free with a time of 48.60 and a new meet record. Her time replaces an 18-year old record set by Olympic silver medalist Martina Moracova in 1997 by .21 seconds.

Florida State freshman Meg Brown continued her success with a win in the 200 back posting a career best of 1:56.84. Brown also took fourth in the 200 IM with a time of 2:01.37. Her efforts earned her the title of High Point Swimmer of the Meet.

Sharli Brady of Mizzou claimed a win in the 200 fly with a final time of 1:57.23, finishing half a second ahead of the competition.

Who does Wirrell think she is, anyway?
Some kind of hotshot double- defending NCAA fly champ/American- NCAA record- holder in the 100 fly too!
Oh she is!
Goodness gracious sakes alive!
Keep,it up, Kelsi, and that trip to Rio you’re hoping to bake next summer just may become a reality.
‘Course even if you make the U.S. team that Swedish miss’ll be awfully tough to beat.
But then who wudda think Wil Licon would have won the 200 breast AND the 400 IM — the latter over the double-defending NCAA champ AR- holder — last season’s NCAAs either.
Andrea Cottrell’s looking tough too. Watch out, Kierra Smith.
