Katinka Hosszu, a day after crushing the 200 IM, won the women’s 200-meter free and failed to podium in anything else on day three of the 2016 FFN Golden Tour.

Hosszu, who has made a brand of swimming a lot of events at meets and winning them, had a bit of a hiccup from her typical event setup this weekend.  Hosszu usually comes into a sparsely-contested meet like this and runs off 10 wins.

She started off fairly well with four wins on distance day one, winning the 800 and 1500 free as well as the 400 IM and the 50 back against very small fields.  Day two, she still managed to blaze her way through the 200 IM with a January-best time, but wound up scratching from several events in order to do so.

Today, Hosszu clocked a 1:56.31 for the win in the women’s 200-meter free.  That’s about a second off her top time last year of 1:55.41 that ranked her fifth in the world.  Charlotte Bonnet took second in 1:57.73 with Coralie Balmy earning third in 1:57.75.

Hosszu then finished a disappointing fifth in the women’s 100-meter back with a time of 1:04.38 after qualifying first in 1:02.71.  Pauline Mahieu won in 1:01.51 with Theodora Drakou taking second in 1:02.02. Mathilde Cini snared third in 1:02.47.

Lara Grangeon blasted her way to a 2:09.26 to smoke the women’s 200-meter fly field that included Hosszu.  Hosszu took a distant sixth in 2:18.07 in what is typically one of her top events.  Katerine Savard (2:13.05) and Aurora Petronio (2:13.85) wound up second and third.

Fanny Deberghes won the women’s 200-meter breast with a time of 2:29.74.  Hosszu placed fifth in 2:37.05.  Adeline Martin (2:31.09) and Camille Dauba (2:33.41) picked up second and third.

Anna Santamans topped the women’s 50-meter free in 25.02.  Melanie Henique took second in 25.39 with Theodora Drakou earning third in 25.42.  Hosszu took fourth in 25.60.

Marco Koch cranked out a 1:01.62 to win the men’s 100-meter breast.  Theo Bussiere finished second in 1:02.54 with Demir Atasoy claiming third in 1:02.86.

Jeremy Stravius won the men’s 100-meter free in a time of 48.89.  That’s just half-a-second off his 14th-ranked season best of 48.34 from last year.  Mehdy Metella took second in 49.37 with Fabien Gilot earning third in 49.91.

Philip Heintz topped the men’s 200-meter IM in 1:59.87.  Andreas Vazaios placed second in 2:01.54 with Raphael Stacchiotti earning third in 2:01.93.

Dimitriou Dimitrios captured the men’s 400-meter free in 3:53.51 with Ahmed Mathlouthi taking second in 3:54.33.  Damien Joly wound up third in 3:55.38.

Ben Stasiulis won the men’s 200-meter back in 2:00.55. Christou Apostolos finished second in 2:00.95 with Oleg Garasymovytch claiming third in 2:02.45.

Mehdy Metella snared the men’s 100-meter fly in 53.24.  Philip Heintz (53.56) and Jordan Coelho (53.81) completed the top three.

MehdynMatella “snared” the men’s 290 fly in 53.24.

Better tell Michael Phelps to get on the stick as his world- record from the Rome World Championshios is 1:51.51!

Think you might have meant “100 fly.”
