Jacob Heidtmann Rockets to 2nd in World in 400 IM in Germany

The German National Championships started off with a bang as Jacob Heidtmann challenged for the top time in the world in the men’s 400-meter IM.

Jacob Heidtmann captured the men’s 400-meter IM crown in 4:13.28 for second in the world rankings.  Only Kosuke Hagino has been faster with a 4:12.18 in the Tokyo City Championships.  Johannes Hintze set a German junior record with a 4:16.58 for 11th in the world.  Kevin Wedel rounded out the podium with a 4:16.63.

The rest of the evening was pretty sparse in terms of titles with night one being purely distance focused.

Leonie Beck moved to sixth in the world in the women’s 800-meter free with an 8:27.37 for the win tonight.  Sarah Kohler placed second tonight in 8:28.23 to take seventh in the world rankings, while Patricia-Lucia Wartenberg wound up third overall in 8:42.66.

Soren Meisner hit the wall in 15:04.93 to win the men’s 1500-meter free.  That swim pushed him to seventh in the world rankings.  Felix Aubock took second in the event with a 15:05.48 for eighth in the world, while Ruwen Straub’s third-place 15:06.01 put him 10th in the world rankings.

Franziska Hentke topped the women’s 400-meter IM in 4:42.73, while Emily Siebrecht took second in 4:43.44.  Juliane Reinhold wound up third in 4:43.75.
