Hosszu Claims Third Title And Burian Completes Backstroke Hat-Trick
Kristof Milak may have dominated the spotlight but Katinka Hosszu claimed her third title of the meet while Katalin Burian completed the backstroke hat-trick as the Hungarian Nationals concluded in Budapest.
Hosszu had won the 200 and 400IM double and followed that with gold in the 100 fly on the final morning at the Duna Arena.
Second to the turn in 28.09 behind Dalma Sebestyen‘s 28.04, the three-time Olympic champion came back in 31.21 to touch in 59.30.
Sebestyen – who had earlier won the 50br in 31.59 to add to her 100br title – touched second in 59.52 as the duo replicated their one-two in the 200IM.
Boglarka Kapas, winner of the 200 fly, was next home just 0.01 adrift in 59.53.

Hosszu also claimed second in the 50 back behind Burian in 28.81 and Hosszu was fifth in the 200 free in 2:02.21 in a race won by 15-year-old Laura Veres in 1:59.60 ahead of Evelyn Verraszto – 16 years the winner’s senior and who had topped the European podium when Veres was just five.
Fanni Fabian was third in 2:01.49.
Hosszu said:
“For the first time, I really felt my old self on the 100 fly.
“Even today, it’s starting to look like what I want – I’ll keep working, I’m not worried because it’s a completely different, new situation, and I don’t feel at all that I’ve been severely disadvantaged.
“The media is panicking, I am swimming, and the timer is measuring time.
Sebestyen added:
“I’m very happy, mainly because I’ve managed to go inside a minute for the 100 fly.
“I’ve been chasing this result for a while now, so yesterday day, this morning, it was a huge achievement for me, silver is like a gold.
“But what’s really amazing is that I finally enjoy swimming again – I don’t think it feels better than that.”
Burian Scores Hat-Trick
Burian completed the backstroke clean sweep in 28.53 after a week where she hit the qualifying time for Tokyo in the 100 as well as going 2:08.20 for third in the world in the 200 heats before a 2:08.81 morning victory.

She said:
“I’ve officially become the sprinter now! 🙂 Having made the Olympics is a huge relief, so things are getting better.
I’ve won 50 championship titles so far, but this time of 28secs is already quite good among sprinters.
“We had to work on my start, now it seemed worth it.”
Csaba Szilágyi added the 50br in 27.46 to the two-length title and Richard Bohus won the 50 back in 25.07, also doubling up.
Kristof Rasovszky celebrated his 24th birthday with victory in the 800 free in 7:55.52 for sixth in the world rankings with the event set to make its Olympic debut in Tokyo and Viktória Mihályvári-Farkas took the women’s 1500 in 16:27.22.
A women’s 4×100 medley time trial resulted in a time of 4:07.37 while BVSC (3:38.04) and Gyori Uszo Sportegy (4:12.06) won the men’s and women’s club events.
