Harrison Wins Two, Oregon State Falls to Washington State

At the annual dual meet between the Oregon State Beavers and the Washington State Cougars on Friday January 22, Oregon State senior Sammy Harrison took two individual wins, but Washington State took the meet by a score of 154-100. Washington State claimed victories in nine events, including four sweeps.

Washington State started the meet off with a win in the 200 medley relay, when a team of Jasmine Margetts, Elsa Lindberg, Anna Brolin, and Addisynn Bursch touched the wall with a time of 1:44.49. Oregon State’s A team of Amani Amr, Czarina Isleta, Andrea Young, and Claire McLaggan were third with a time of 1:47.14. Oregon State’s Sammy Harrison then won the 1000 free in a 10:13.14, over two seconds ahead of Washington State junior Kendra Griffin (10:15.87). Harrison would later go on to claim the 500 free with a time of 5:01.16.

Washington State answered back with a sweep in the 200 free, which was led by the junior Bursch (1:50.16) and completed by the sophomore Rachel Thompson (1:53.36) and junior Elise Locke (1:53.98). The freshman Margetts kept things rolling for the Cougars with a victory in the 100 back (55.89). Oregon State’s top finisher in the event was the senior Amr, who took third with a time of 57.47. Washington State senior Presley Wetterstrom was first in the 100 breast (1:04.37) and Locke claimed the 200 fly (2:04.27). Wetterstrom also took the 200 breast (2:16.18).

The 50 free was swept by the Cougars–junior Haley Rose Love took the event (23.66) and was followed by sophomore Anna Rosen (24.04) and junior Hailey Johnson (24.17). The 100 free was also a sweep for Washington State. Bursch led the charge with a 50.96, while Love clocked a 52.02 and Rosen’s 52.78 rounded out the podium. The 200 backstroke was the final sweep for the Cougars and was completed by Margetts (1:59.33), senior Loree Olson (2:00.11), and sophomore Talisa Wibmer (2:09.62).

The Oregon State women closed out the meet with a win in the 400 free relay. A team of Constance Toulemonde, Anni Hecker, Young, and Harrison clocked in with a time of 3:36.54.

Oregon State will next be in action on Saturday January 30 against Boise State, while Washington State next competes against Nebraska on January 29 and 30.
