Hanna-Maria Seppala Star of Show on Day 2 of Finnish Nationals

Hanna-Maria Seppala, one of the top Finnish stars of all time as a 2003 world champion, was the star of the show on day two at the Finnish Swimming Nationals.

Seppala led the women’s 100-meter free semis tonight in 56.50.  Mimosa Jallow wound up second in 56.94.   Roosa Mort claimed the third seed in 57.73.

Kalle Pyvkkonen won the men’s 400-meter IM in 4:32.63 with Miro Torola taking second in 4:35.03.  Jere Laukkanen placed third in 4:35.15.

Veera Kivirinta claimed the women’s 50-meter breast title in 31.22 with Jenna Laukkanen placing second in 31.35. Silja Kansakoski snared third in 31.88.

Christoffer Fredrikson posted a 57.85 to win the men’s 100-meter back.  Janne Markkanen took second in 58.29 with Sergei Haukka placing third in 58.43.

Mimosa Jallow snagged the women’s 100-meter back title in 1:02.76, while Lotta Upanne finished second in 1:03.90.  Carita Luukkanen earned third in 1:03.99.

Matti Mattsson won the men’s 100-meter breast in 1:02.50 with Lassi Ohtonen taking second in 1:03.23.  Ari-Pekka Liukkonen snagged third in 1:03.65.

Tuomas Pokkinen turned in a 53.68 to win the men’s 100-meter fly, just off the Finnish record of 53.08 set by Jere Hard back in 2001.  Anton Herrala (55.13) and Aleksi Schmid (55.42) finished second and third.

Laura Lajunen won the women’s 800-meter free in 8:55.40.  Aino Otava took second in 9:00.56 with Mira Palovuori placing third in 9:20.34.

Fanny Teijonsalo paced the women’s 50-meter fly semis with a time of 27.35.  Nea Norismaa took the second seed in 27.66 with Alma Lumio qualifying third in 27.82.

Andrei Tuomola posted a 23.08 for the top seed out of the men’s 50-meter free semis.  Ari-Pekka Liukkonen earned the second seed in 23.29 with Tatu Waltari earning the third seed in 23.43.
