GREENSBORO- Stanford Coach Greg Meehan has every reason to be jumping up and down, but he remains even keel. Freshman Simone Manuel lived up to expectations by winning the 50 free (in a smoking 21.3) and pulling the water out from underneath UVA’s 400 free relay team with a 45.4 anchor leg to give Stanford the victory and NCAA record.

Meehan shares with Swimming World his thoughts on Simone’s performances, her teammates’ performances and how today helps Stanford going into the next two days.

It would be a pretty good trick for Stanford to have won — as you wrote — the “400 freestyle relay” because that race won’t be contested until Saturday.
Think you mean the “400 medley relay.”

And this from a former NCAA All-America breaststroker too.

Annie, Annie, ANNIE!
