FX-Sport Launches New VRX Swimming Headphones With Preloaded Workouts, Stroke Rate Pacemaker, Lap Pacemaker With Lap Counter And The Ability To Create Custom Workouts In Your Own Words – All With Your Own Music.

FX-SPORT’s VRX headphones are a lightweight and water resistant set of wire-free “on the ear” sport headphones. The headphones have an integrated 8GB premium mp3 player and arrive preloaded with hundreds of professionally constructed workouts in many fitness categories. Users can also create their own workouts in their own words and race against a virtual athlete. All workout messages play automatically at designated times, over the user’s own music.

All functionality is applicable for swimming using FX-Sport’s waterproof Silicone Skin Accessory [bought separately]. This makes the VRX fully waterproof for swimming. A swimmer would then wear the supplied silicone putty earplugs underneath the headphones. These will block water from entering the ears, but will allow sound through. A custom swim cap is also supplied which then keeps everything secure, even on flip turns.

Besides the usual preloaded swimming workouts, the VRX now has several training aid options to suit your needs:

  1. To hear a voice coach continuously saying “stroke, stroke…” for your choice of stroke rate per minute ranging from 50 strokes per minute to 90 strokes per minute. [No music].
  2. 15 seconds of “stroke” voice coach followed by either 1 minute or 2 minutes worth of your music [your choice of stroke rate per minute].
  3. 30 seconds of “stroke” voice coach followed by 2 minutes worth of your music [again, your choice of stroke rate per minute].
  4. Option to have a voiced Lap Time Pacemaker for each length, ranging from 17 seconds to 35 seconds per length. Time notifications are cumulative and will count the lengths. So for example “25 seconds, 1 length…50 seconds, 2 lengths…1 minute 15, 3 lengths…” etc with your own music between time notifications. As long as the swimmer keeps pace, the Lap Counter will be 100% accurate. A workout can be paused to “catch up” if necessary.

Founder of FX-Sport, Duncan Walsh, says: “We use the silicone skin to provide the waterproofing because fully waterproofing any audio device such as a waterproof mp3 player or waterproof headphones, always results in a compromise in music quality. The VRX itself is still water and sweat resistant, but will allow air to the speakers to produce great bass.

The protective silicone case contains air, so a type of micro environment is created. The silicone putty earplugs then work to block water entering the ear canal, but will allow sound through.

We believe this is the most thought through methodology for listening to music while swimming.  And our customers agree!  See the reviews from our customers.

The VRX retails at $159 and the Silicone Skin Accessory retails at $25 on our website.

Do they have a motion sensor to know when you flip turn?

Hi Scott – I asked FX Sport and here is their answer: “There are no sensors on the unit as sensors are usually not sufficiently accurate. If the person is referring to how the unit counts lengths, it’s just related to the pacemaker. So if the swimmer was swimming at a pace of 25 seconds per length, then as long as they keep pace with that, the unit will communicate the correct no. of laps. If the person lost pace, the unit can be paused until they are back on pace and it will resume again.” For more info, their website is http://www.fx-sport.net/.
