Fu Yuanhui Claims Another Backstroke Victory After Day 2 of Chinese Summer Nationals

The second finals session has been completed at the Chinese Summer National Swimming Championships in Ganzhou, Jiangxi. Fu Yuanhui claims another backstroke victory with a season best time while teenagers make their way to the top of the podium.

Men’s 50 Free

Teenager Zhang Zhoujian touched first in a time of 22.87, just ahead of 2016 Olympian, Lin Yongqing (22.93). 

Women’s 50 Free

Zheng Yao and Zhang Sishi both took home gold as they tied in a time of 25.91.

Men’s 100 Breast

Shen Hao claimed another breaststroke gold this meet touching in a time of 1:01.11. Yan Zibei (59.52) still remains the top Chinese swimmer in this event with his time from Chinese Nationals in Qingdao.

Women’s 200 Breast

Teenager Yu Yiting, who won the 50 breast on the first day, took gold again in a time of 2:28.62. However, Chinese swimmers Ye Shiwen, Yu Jingyao, and He Yun posted times faster at recent meets in Qingdao and Guangzhou.

Men’s 400 IM

Less than half a second separated the top 3 finishers but Li Chao touched first in a time of 4:21.52.

Women’s 100 Back

Fu Yuanhui claimed another backstroke gold medal this meet, finishing in a season best time of 59.57. This time is .03 faster than her previous best time and now moves her to 9th in the world, just ahead of Hungary’s Katinka Hosszu

Men’s 200 Back

Li Guangyuan cleared the field in a time of 1:58.67. Xu Jiayu is still the fastest Chinese swimmer in this event with Li not too far behind in this season’s world rankings. Li Guangyuan swam a season best time of 1:57.07 in Qingdao earlier this year, ranking him 12th in the world.

Women’s 200 Free

Teenager Yin Jiahe claimed gold and touched in a time of 2:01.02.

Men’s 1500 Free

Teenager Pan Zhanle touched first in a time of 15:33.48, just .15 ahead of second place.
