On the last day of the Russian Juniors National Championships for boys aged 15-16 and girls aged 13-14, three individual and one relay meet records fell.

Team Saint Petersburg broke the girls 4×100 medley relay record from 2012 and won gold with 4:20.98. In prelims, the team was the second qualifier behind team Moscow and managed to cut seven seconds from their morning time. Volgograd won silver (4:22.76) and Moscow left with bronze (4:23.06).

In the boys 200 backstroke, Pavel Tatarenko, representing Volgograd in front of domestic crowd, set the new meet record – 2:03.02. He beat the previous one which kept for almost ten years by five tenths of a second. Tatarenko left his rivals behind with a solid 2.60-second lead. Climent Kolesnikov got silver in the 200 back with 2:05.63 and Maxim Stupin earned bronze, 2:06.63.

Dmitry Popov from Khanty broke the 200 fly meet record and grabbed the national title with 2:01.91. His rapid first half helped him to take a lead over his closest rival Pyotr Zhikharev who won silver (2:02.79). Zhikharev almost reached him at the finish but Popov’s effort not only brought him to gold but also to the new record. Zaytsev Ivan won bronze with 2:06.13.

Poptapov Yaroslav from Volgograd became the new meet record holder in boys 1500 free (15:35.59). His lead over other finalists was absolutely dominant: more than 30 seconds. Daniel Shatalov, who finished second, posted a 16:07.59 and Martin Malyutin completed the podium with a 16:11.58.

Gleb Karasev, representing Tatarstan, won gold in the men’s 100 free. It was a strong and confident win over Ivan Gireev (silver, 51.57) and Vyatcheslav Sannikov (bronze, 51.82). With a 50 free title under his belt, looks like Karasev has a bright future in freestyle sprint.

In the girls 100 fly, Alexandra Denisenko from Saint Petersburg was very close to set her third meet record but fell short by three tenths. She won gold with 1:01.77 while Yana Kurtseva got silver (1:02.84) and Darya Loboda won bronze, 1:03.35.

In the girls 50 free, Valeria Sukhanova from Kaluga missed a meet record by .03, yet she won the gold medal and got a National title with a 26.39. Sukhanova was second seed into the finals and cut 0.4 from her semifinal time. Viktoria Nosova finished second (26.57) and Katarina Milutitovic was third (26.90).
