Finlay Knox, winner of two medals at the World Junior Championships last year, was named one of the recipients of this year’s Victor Davis Award, announced by Swimming Canada Wednesday.

The award was established in the memory of Victor Davis, a two-time Olympian who won four medals between the 1984 and 1988 Games, including gold in the 200 breaststroke in Los Angeles. He was killed in an hit-and-run accident at age 25 in 1989, shortly after his retirement from swimming, and a fund was established in his honor in 1990 to support young swimmers pursuing careers in the pool.

Knox won silver in the 200 individual medley at World Juniors and took bronze as the anchor for the Canadian 400 medley relay. He holds the second-fastest time in Canadian history in the men’s 200 IM. The native of Okotoks, Alberta, relocated this year to Toronto to join Swimming Canada’s High Performance Center there.

“I am very honored to be chosen for this award and it will help support my training while living in Toronto,” Knox said in a Swimming Canada release.

Also among the recipients are a pair of Knox’s teammates at the 2019 World Juniors in Budapest. Ashley McMillan, from KISU Swim Club in British Columbia, finished eighth in the 200 IM at that meet and also swam in the 200 backstroke. Genevieve Sasseville, representing Chatham Pool Sharks/Ontario Swimming Academy, finished eighth in the 100 butterfly at World Juniors and grabbed bronze medals in the women’s 400 and 800 free relays.
