European Championships, Day 4 Semis: Dawson Sets 100 Back Championship Record
Kathleen Dawson and Kira Toussaint traded 100 back championship records as they renewed acquaintance once more at the European Championships in Budapest.
Martin Malyutin heads the 200 free and Andrei Govorov looked ominous in the 50 fly while Molly Renshaw booked lane four for the 200 breaststroke.
Women’s 100 Back
Toussaint had won gold ahead of the Briton in the 50 back on Wednesday and the Netherlands swimmer matched Mie Nielsen’s meet mark of 58.73 from London 2016.
That lasted less than five minutes with Dawson, who was 0.16 under European record pace at 50, went 58.44 with a long glide into the wall.

Men’s 200 Free
Martin Malyutin already has two gold medals to his name following victory in the 400 free and the 4×200.
The Russian led the way in 1:45.60 ahead of a British two-three of defending champion Duncan Scott (1:46.15) and Tom Dean (1:46.17).
Also through were Danys Rapsys and Kristof Milak.

Women’s 200 Breaststroke
Molly Renshaw and Abbie Wood means that the centre lanes will have a distinctly British flavour as the pair occupied the two top slots.
Renshaw, the British record holder, touched first in 2:21.55 ahead of Loughborough training partner Wood in 2:21.86.
Lisa Mamie sliced 1.12 seconds off her Swiss record as she won the second heat in 2:23.15 ahead of Evgeniia Chikunova (2:23.22).
Sophie Hansson, the 100br winner, missed out by one spot.

Men’s 50 Fly
World record-holder Andrei Govorov thundered to 22.97 to lead the way ahead of Russian duo Andrey Zhilkin (23.02) and Andrei Minakov (23.10) with Szebasztian Szabo clocking the same time as the latter.
Florent Manaudou, the former world champion, didn’t make it through, finishing 11th.
