Flashback Fun: Epic Snow Swimming Good For a Few Laughs (Video)

Now that we are officially in winter, we wanted to take a trip back to the hilarity brought by former LSU swimmer Julius Gloeckner during a major snowstorm. Gloeckner put together an epic individual medley in the white stuff, covering all four strokes while he resided in Boston during a 2015 blizzard.

LSU swimming definitely represented itself well with a recent Blizzard Snow Swimming video from Boston.

Former LSU swimmer Julius Gloeckner, originally from Freiburg, Germany, decided to take part in the recent Snow Swimming trend on social media with the Northeast being crushed by snow in the past few weeks.  His fiance, Emily Weil, uploaded the video to YouTube.

Unique to the video compared to most of the other snow swimming videos is that Gloeckner actually does a full IM in the snow, where more other attempts are either overblown snow angels or just freestyle.

Gloeckner had a strong career at LSU according to his final LSU bio from 2009.

“Leaves LSU as the most decorated swimmer in recent program history … His four individual school records (200 freestyle, 200 IM, 400 IM and 200 butterfly) are more than any other swimmer … Also part of two relay records during his time as a Tiger … Earned six All-America accolades during his career, including First-team honors in the 400-yard individual medley as a sophomore … Also claimed the third-place medal in that race at the 2007 SEC Championships … Voted the 2009 SEC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the SEC coaches for his outstanding accomplishments, both in the pool and in the classroom … Held the team’s fastest times in an astounding six races as both a freshman and sophomore … Led the Tigers in five events as a junior and four as a senior … Recipient of the program’s Most Outstanding Swimmer Award in 2007 … Received SEC Academic Honor Roll recognition in every year of his career.”

This article gained enough attention that it was picked up by TIME Magazine’s Sam Grossman.

Firstly, I’ve seen video of a guy doing fly moving. Not in place, MOVING. If you’re going to say you snow swam a 100 IM, snow swim a 100 IM, not in place. Despite that, I’m proud of the fact that he managed to do that…in a speedo in thick, cold snow.

On NOR t’other day the Mayor if Boston warned against jumping out of second-story ( or higher!) windows into the snow ’cause TA’ never know what you’ll land on — like some big old semi,or the snow is solid ice, eye.

Hope Julius considered this before taking the plunge.
