One of Virginia’s top-ranked athletes has made a very early verbal college commitment five weeks before the beginning of the new recruiting season.

Kylie Jordan, who will be a senior at the Madeira School, announced that she will be a Duke Blue Devil starting in the fall of 2016. The team will gain a versatile swimmer, as Jordan is a strong freestyler and butterflyer with the likelihood of breaking out in the individual medley events as well.

“I wanted to go into my senior year without the stress of this decision,” Jordan told Swimming World. “I went on an unofficial visit to Duke a couple of weeks ago and just fell in love.”

Jordan’s potential appears to be greatest at this point in her career in butterfly. Her best short course yards time in the 100 is 53.53, while she holds a 1:58.86 lifetime best in the 200 fly. She’ll be leaned on as a freshman for freestyle relay duties as well, and she has shown capabilities in the 100 and 200 freestyles with best times of 50.50 and 1:48.44, respectively.

Jordan has been a star at the high school championships, winning six Virginia Independent Schools championships and was voted swimmer of the meet all three years. She’ll be looking for a fourth consecutive 100 fly win at her final VISAA meet in February.

Mike Stott, Swimming World Magazine contributor and head coach at The Collegiate School (a Madeira School rival) said of Jordan: “She is a fierce competitor and a delightful young woman who should help the Blue Devil program considerably on its upward trajectory in the years ahead.”

Jordan also swam in the DC Metro championships in February, winning the 200 IM and 100 fly by large margins, an impressive feat at one of the top high school competitions in the country. As a swimmer for Nation’s Capital Swim Club, she attended the National Club Swimming Association’s championships in March, and her top finish was top-four in the short course yards prelims and long course finals of the 100 fly. She is less than a second off qualifying for Olympic Trials in the 100 fly and 200 fly.

When she arrives at Duke, Jordan said she plans to be a premed student in the university’s Collegiate Athlete Pre-medical Experience program – or CAPE – which is geared solely for female student-athletes. Jordan doesn’t have a specific career path in mind just yet, but knows premed will be her focus.

“(Duke) has a really strong academic as well as athletic program,” she said. “I was looking for that balance.”
