Bonnie Brandon, Michael Meyer, and Gage Crosby all made strong showings during the final day of the Southwest Classic. The University of Arizona trio felt right at home in Tucson in a competitive in-season tune up.

Arizona distance freestyle and 200-meter back specialist Bonnie Brandon showed her prowess in the 100-meter race, winning in 1:04.14. She finished just ahead of Cameron McHugh, who took second with a 1:04.45. Sophie Krivokapic-Zhou wound up third in 1:05.28.

Gage Crosby, who already won the 100-meter breast, cruised to a 2:23.82 win in the men’s 200-meter breast. Jaren LeFranc, 16, clocked a 2:25.84 to get second, and Michael Messner took third in 2:26.99.

Michael Meyer popped off a personal best to take the crown in the men’s 200-meter IM in 2:04.43. Eric Ress was a distant second at a 2:09.22. Messner made the podium at 2:09.48.

Swimming veteran Nick Thoman dominated the men’s 100-meter back despite being well off his seed of 52.86. Thoman’s 55.01, however, was more than enough to take down second-place finisher Eric Ress (57.45). Bryce Bohman finished third in 57.62.

Emma Schoettmer proved too much to handle in the women’s 200-meter breast. Her 2:32.37 was virtually uncontested. Sara Borendame silvered with a 2:37.21, while Lauren Stoeckle swam a 2:40.27 to get third.

New Mexico State junior Dorottya Lennert blasted a personal best 1:01.87 in the women’s 100-meter fly. The Hungarian defeated Paige Kremer, who finished just off her best at 1:02.83. Krivokapic-Zhou ended up third in 1:03.15.

Masa Kishida (53.83) touched out Darian Townsend (53.84) to win an exciting men’s 100-meter fly. Bohman rounded out the top three with a 55.85.

Sophie Krivokapic-Zhou, after two third place finishes, hit the wall first in the women’s 200-meter IM. Her 2:23.26 was too much for second-place finisher Mackenzie Padington (2:25.31). Megan Dalke just missed finishing second at a 2:25.33.
