VERACRUZ – Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace claimed a sprint double with wins in the 100 free and 100 fly at the Central American and Caribbean Games swimming on Tuesday night.  This came after Monday night’s finals were cancelled due to severe winds, that led to the events being spread out the rest of the week in Mexico.

Vanderpool-Wallace raced her way to a meet record in the women’s 100-meter free with a 54.87 for the victory.  That’s better than the 55.00 set by Vanessa Garcia back in 2010 for Puerto Rico.  Mexico’s Liliana Ibanez took second in 56.18 with Garcia placing third in 56.70.

Vanderpool-Wallace doubled up with a 1:00.17 in the women’s 100-meter fly, while Colombia’s Jessica Camposano (1:00.64) and Carolina Colorado (1:00.97) also put up 1:00s for the top three.

Mexico’s Byanca Melissa Rodriguez downed a meet record in the women’s 200-meter breast with a 2:29.37.  That lowered Alia Atkinson’s 2010 mark of 2:30.99.  Mexico went 1-2 tonight with Esther Gonzalez touching second in 2:32.62, while Venezuela’s Mercedes Toledo placed third in 2:32.95.

Colombia’s Mateo De Angulo cleared the meet record in the men’s 400-meter free with a 3:53.20, while El Salvador’s Marcelo Acosta also beat the previous mark with a second-place 3:53.39.  Cristian Quintero owned the old record with a 3:55.19 from 2010.  Tonight, Quintero took third in 3:55.22.

Venezuela’s Andreina Pinto won her third title of the meet with a 4:48.80 meet record in the women’s 400-meter IM.  That went with her victories in the 200 and 400 frees. The swim lowered Charetzeri Escobar’s mark of 4:50.03 from 2010.  Mexico’s Natalia Jaspeado (4:53.81) and Maria Jimenez (5:01.16) rounded out the top three.

Venezuela’s Albert Subirats won the men’s 50-meter fly in 24.01 with Guatemala’s Luis Carlos Martinez taking second in 24.31. Suriname’s Renzo Tjon-a-Joe earned third in 24.56.

Colombia’s Omar Pinzon (2:00.95) and David Cespedes (2:03.85) made it a 1-2 for their country in the men’s 200-meter back.  Puerto Rico’s Yeziel Morales placed third in 2:03.86.

Colombia’s Jorge Mario Murillo captured the men’s 50-meter breast crown in 28.12 with Panama’s Edgar Crespo touching second in 28.35.  Miguel De Lara wound up third in 28.46.
