Alabama’s Dakota Toner Selected for NCAA Career in Sports Forum
Following right along with an Alabama tradition of excellence highlighted this year by Bailey Scott, diver Dakota Toner is now doing her part after being selected for the 2017 NCAA Career in Sports Forum.
A scorer at the Southeastern Conference Championships, Toner is a three-year NCAA Zone B Championship competitor who graduated in May with a degree in consumer sciences with a concentration in consumer affairs while carrying a career grade point average of 3.88. Toner also earned CSCAA Scholar All-America honors during her Crimson Tide tenure.

Last year, UNLV’s Janelle Nguyen earned the same honors, and participated in the 2016 event. This year, five SEC student-athletes were selected to the Forum which will take place in Indianapolis from June 1-4.
The four-day Forum takes 200 junior or senior athletes from the NCAA’s 24 sports and advises them on how to be a successful employee off the field, and of course, out of the pool.
“Supporting NCAA student-athlete leaders with their education is a key goal for the Association,” said Bernard Franklin, NCAA executive vice president of education and community engagement and chief inclusion officer. “Our Career in Sports Forum puts student-athletes and postgraduate scholarship recipients in a non-traditional academic setting where they can learn directly from successful leaders, which can have a positive impact on their future after graduation.”
According to the NCAA, the Forum hosts industry experts discussing the following topics:
- How personal values intersect with career opportunities
- How behavioral styles impact individual effectiveness
- Key professional and career development information to assist with transition from a student-athlete to a professional
- The role of the college coach or athletics administrator
Participants will also get the opportunity to network with peers, as well as key decision-makers at the campus, conference and national level of college athletics.
