Abbey Weitzeil, Fieldwork Brewing Company Team Up on Special Beer

Abbey Weitzeil and Berkeley-based Fieldwork Brewing Company are collaborating on a special American lager named after Weitzeil’s dogs, Jax and Weylin.

The Jax & Weylin lager is an extension of collaborations between the four-time Olympic medalist and the brewery to raise money for animal safety and well-being through Pints for Paws events. Both of Weitzeil’s dogs are rescues. A donation of $1 from each can or glass of Jax & Weylin sold by Fieldwork will be donated to local rescue organizations.

The American lager has “a crisp finish and hint of American hop flavor built for easy drinking” with, “notes of fresh grapefruit zest, dried sweet orange peel, saltine crackers, and citrus blossom, making it a perfect beer for summer days by the pool or hanging out in the park throwing a frisbee to your dog.” It has an ABV of 4.5 percent.

“I appreciate the community-driven nature of my partnership with Fieldwork Brewing,” Weitzeil said in a press release. “We share a passion for dog rescue and I enjoy working together to drive awareness and financial support for local animals and shelters. Sipping a Fieldwork beer at one of their taprooms surrounded by my friends and dogs is a fun way for me to relax. I am incredibly excited about my Fieldwork beer collaboration — we teamed up to create a refreshing, flavorful lager for spring, which I can’t wait to share!”

“We are honored to have the privilege of supporting Abbey Weitzeil as she gears up for the next Olympics,” Fieldwork CEO and Co-Founder Barry Braden said. “It’s really amazing to witness Abbey competing for our country and achieving tremendous results. Abbey is a wonderful human being with so much potential for greatness in the swimming pool. Anything we can do to help her on this journey, we are up for it.”

Weitzeil is vying to qualify for her third Olympics. The sprint stalwart and American record holder in the 50 free has four relay medals to her name, including gold in the 400 medley from the Rio Games in 2016. The University of California grad has 12 career World Championships medals on relays (four long-course, eight short-course) plus bronze in the 100 free at the 2021 Short-Course champs.
