2021 US Olympic Trials: Day Five Prelims Heat Sheets
After a five-year long wait, the US Olympic Trials have finally arrived. With six weeks until the Olympic Games, the United States will be selecting its Olympic team this week in Omaha, Nebraska. The prelims of the women’s 100 free, men’s 200 back, women’s 200 breast and men’s 200 IM will be held on Thursday morning. Prelims will begin at 11 a.m. CST and will be streamed on NBCOlympics.com.
Thursday will be the first the Omaha crowd gets to see reigning Olympic champ and two-time World champ Simone Manuel in the heats of the 100 freestyle as she starts her Tokyo defense. Four spots on the 4×100 free relay will be on the line as Mallory Comerford, Abbey Weitzeil and Erika Brown follow Manuel on the psych sheet. Among those three, only Weitzeil has made an Olympic team before, but all four of them have yet to make the team for Tokyo. Torri Huske, Claire Curzan and Allison Schmitt will be swimming in the 100 free as they have already secured their spots on the plane to Tokyo.
Ryan Murphy and Lilly King already secured their tickets to Tokyo in the 100 back and 100 breast, and will get a chance to make a second event for the Games, while Annie Lazor and Austin Katz are seeded in the top two in those events.
Ryan Lochte will have a chance to make his fifth Olympic team in the 200 IM while Chase Kalisz and Michael Andrew will be looking to make a second event after winning the 400 IM and 100 breaststroke on Sunday night. Caeleb Dressel unsurprisingly scratched the 200 IM to focus on the 100 free final on Thursday night.
Prelims will begin at 11 a.m. CST and will be streamed on NBCOlympics.com.
