2019 TYR Pro Swim Series Bloomington Night Four RACE VIDEOS and Recap
As the 2019 TYR Pro Swim Series in Bloomington headed into its final session this evening, there was still much work to be done. Boasting one of the most competitive finals heat sheets of the weekend, the Sunday night session hardly looked like the conclusion to a grueling four-day weekend. Instead, the athletes attacked the night with newfound vigor, as they tapped into their raw competitive instincts and let the times follow.
Distance stalwart Katie Ledecky lowered her mark for fastest 800 free of 2019, dropping the eighth fastest time all-time. Annie Lazor experienced a breakout swim of her own in the women’s 200 breast, as she shattered the TYR Pro Series record and jumped to first in the world.

Women’s 800 Free
As foretold by the heat sheets, Katie Ledecky dominated the competition in the 800 free final. There was just one question that lingered before she took her mark–What magic did she have in her today?
Quite a bit. Despite a long four days of competition, Ledecky showed no signs of fatigue, negative-splitting her marquee event and surging home to an 8:10.70 finish. This shaved three seconds off her time this year, lowering the mark for fastest time of the year and ranking eighth all time.
It was a tight race for second, as Sierra Schmidt (8:36.71) and Ally McHugh (8:37.34) swam nearly identical races, with Schmidt gaining enough of an advantage in the final 100 to cinch second. Becca Mann barely conceded third, turning in an 8:37.38 to take fourth. Cierra Runge headed the third wave with an 8:41.30, as Megan Byrnes stayed at her hip with an 8:44.01. Cassy Jernberg remained in the mix, dropping an 8:44.23, while Geena Freriks rounded out the women’s distance schedule with an 8:48.13.

Women’s 200 Breast
Annie Lazor sent shock waves throughout the swim community, as she went out in an impressive 1:08.87 in the 200 breast final. She showed no signs of slowing, as she crashed the pad and immediately turned to the scoreboard, met by a 2:20.77 staring back at her. Not only was this a personal best, but also the fastest time in the world this year.
It was Emily Escobedo who took second, clocking in at 2:24.51 to edge out Lilly King (2:24.60). Melissa Rodriguez was in the mix, as her 2:28.85 was good enough to land her fourth place ahead of Laura Morley (2:30.29). Noelle Peplowski claimed sixth by a wide margin, dropping a 2:31.83 to take down Allie Szekely (2:33.38). Morgan Friesen (2:33.55) lowered her time from this morning to put showcase some outside smoke in the outer lane.
