2019 Men’s Pac-12 Championship Day 2 Prelims: Stanford, Cal Load Finals

Cal swimmers got off to a quick start by winning both relays on night one. The Bears hope to remain on top with Andrew Seliskar, Trenton Julian, Sean Grieshop and Nick Norman taking four of the top eight seeds going into this morning’s 500 free, though Brooks Fail of Arizona hopes to keep the top seed heading into tonight’s finals.

Andrew Seliskar of Cal hopes to hold onto his top seed in the 200 IM despite his back to back events with the 500 free minutes before his race. Stanford’s Abrahm DeVine, who is currently in second, will be fighting for the win in the 200 IM this morning.

The 50 free will be a close race, as the top eight seeds are only separated by .46 seconds. Going into the morning Cal’s Pawel Sendyk holds the top seed, followed closely by Arizona’s Chatham Dobbs and USC’s Kyle Grissom.

Victor Johansson of USC dominated the 500 by jumping from the ninth seed to the first with a time of 4:14.52.

Cal swimmer Trenton Julian came in a close second with a time of 4:15.01.

Coming in third was Cal’s Sean Grieshop with a time of 4:15.96.

In fourth was Brooks Fail of Arizona with a time of 4:15.99, in fifth was Johannes Calloni of Stanford with a time of 4:16.09, in sixth was Matthew Hirschberger of Stanford with a time of 4:16.41, in seventh was James Murphy of Stanford with a time of 4:16.88, and in eighth was Nick Norman of Cal with a time of 4:17.80.

200 IM

David Schlicht of Arizona took the top seed by dropping over three seconds in his 200 IM, going a time of 1:43.12.

Cal’s Mike Thomas came in second with a time of 1:43.87, followed closely by his teammate Andrew Seliskar with a time of 1:43.93.

In fourth was Grant House of ASU with a time of 1:43.97, in a close fifth was Abrahm DeVine of Stanford with a time of 1:43.98, in sixth was Brennan Pastorek of Stanford with a time of 1:44.18, in seventh was Daniel Carr of Cal with a time of 1:44.29, and in eighth was Alex Liang of Stanford with a time of 1:44.38.

50 Free

Cal’s Pawel Sendyk kept his top seed in the 50 free and got dangerously close to breaking the 19 second barrier this morning with a time of 19.09.

Cal also took the second, third and fourth seeds as well with swimmers, Ryan Hoffer going a time of 19:38, Michael Jensen going a time of 19:55, and Nate Biondi going a time of 19:56.

Coming in a close fifth and sixth were UCS swimmers Kyle Grissom with a time of 19:57, and Nikola Miljenic with a time of 19:59. Utah’s Austin Phillips comes in seventh with a time of 19:61 and Standord’s Brad Zdroik comes in eighth with a time of 19:62.
