2019 Japanese Swimming Championships Day 5: Seto Wins Again

Today marked the fifth day of the 2019 Japanese Swimming Championships.

Daiya Seto had another big day, winning the men’s 200m IM after posting a 1:54 200m fly in finals yesterday.

The session’s full lineup included the men’s 200m IM, men’s and women’s 100m free final, men’s and women’s 200m breaststroke semi final, women’s 200m fly final and men’s 200m back semi final.

Meet 

Men 200m IM Final

After finishing first in the men’s 200m fly and the semi final of the 200m IM, Diaya Seto got things done again today. He finished first in the final of the 200m IM with a time of 1:56.69, off the national record but still a Gwangju Worlds A Cut. Finishing second with a time of 1:58.66 was Juran Mizohata.

Both in the sub-two minute range were Tomoya Takeuchi and Takeharu Fujimori. Takeuchi finished third (1:59.26) with Fujimori finishing fourth (1:59.36).

Finishing fifth with a time of 2:00.21 was Yuuki Ikari. Takumi Uchiyama finished sixth (2:02.02), Hiroya Yama placed seventh (2:20.32) and Masayuki Ohtake touched eighth (2:02.46).

Women’s 100m Freestyle Final

Taking first in the women’s 100m free today was Tomomi Aoki. She finished  with a time of 54.45, off the national record time but just at the A cut.

A close second (54.51) and third (54.56) went to Rika Oomoto and Rio Shirai. Pushing fourth (54.70) and fifth (54.72) were Chihiro Igarashi and Aya Satou.

Finishing sixth with a time of 55.24 was Sayuki Ouchi. Nagisa Ikemoto took seventh (55.43) and Yui Yamane touched eighth (55.52).

Men’s 100m Freestyle Final

Following the women’s 100m free were the men. Katsumi Nakamura finished first in finals with a time of 48.55. Shinri Shioura finished a close second (48.48).

In third with a time of 48.71 was Katsuhiro Matsumoto. Taking fourth (49.22) in the event was Kaiya Seki, Akira Nanba finished fifth (29.33).

Sixth, seventh and eighth went to Mashiro Kawane (49.46), Koutarou Takahshi (49.60) and Kousuke Matsui (49.80).

Men’s 200m Breastroke Semi Final

Up next was the semi final of the men’s 100m breaststroke. Ippei Watanabe finished first with a t time of 209.36. He took second in the 100m breast on Wednesday.

Next to the wall was Kazuki Kohinata, he finished at 2:10.24. In third place with a time of 2:10.68 was Yasuhiro Koseki.

All staying in the 2:10 range were Ryuya Miura, Kazuki Hayashi and Yukihiro Takahashi. Miura finished fourth (2:10.85), Hayashi paced fifth (2:10.88) and Takahashi took sixth (2:10.99).

In seventh with a time of 2:11.11 was Mamoru Mouri. Third-place finisher in the 100m breast Hayato Watanabe took eighth (2:11.12).

Women’s 200m Butterfly Final

It was Suzuka Hasegawa that won the women’s 200m fly final today. She finished with a time of 2:07.44, which is an A cut. Taking a close second with a time of 2:07.57 was Yui Ohhashi.

Both in the 2:08 range were Hiroko Makino and Sachi Mochida. Makino won the 100m fly on Wednesday but finished third (2:08.17) today. Mochida finished fourth (2:08.96).

Taking fifth in the event with a time of 2:09.87 was Sakiko Shimizu. Sixth (2:11.04) went to Tsukimi Takeyama, Karin Takemura finished seventh (2:11.71) and Airi Mitsui placed eighth (2:12.71).

Women’s 200m Breaststroke Semi Final

Kanako Watanabe won the semi-final of the women’s 200m breaststroke. She got to the wall with a time of 2:25.32, well off the national record but still an A cut. A close second went to Shiori Asaba finishing with a time of 2:25.40.

In third with a time of 2:26.91 was Runa Imai. Kako Ishida finished fourth (2:27.56) while Mai Fukasawa took fifth (2:27.76).

Finishing off top eight were Satomi Suzuki, Mei Ishihara and Miho Takahashi. Suzuki placed sixth (2:27.81), Ishihara took seventh (2:27.86) and Takahashi finished eighth (2:27.91).

Men’s 200m Backstroke Semi Final

Finishing off today’s session was the semi final of the men’s 200m backstroke. Taking first with a time of 1:58.27 was Ryosuke Irie.

Touching second with a time of 1:58.99 was Hayate Mastubara. Yuuki Maruyama finished third (1:59.41). Fourth (1:59.42) went to Yuma Edo with Keita Sunama taking fifth (1:59.55).

Still in the sub-two minute range were Ryota Naitou and Ryuka Ino. Naitou finished sixth (1:59.73) while Ino placed seventh (1:59.95). Takahiro Yamazaki qualified eighth (2:00.14).
