Men’s 100m Breaststroke SB5

Sweden’s Karl Forsman was the top qualifier this morning in 1:33.47. Korea’s Woo Geun Lim was a second and a half back in 1:34.86. This third seed went to Mexico’s Pedro Rangel (1:37.02). Brazil’s Roberto Rodriguez (1:39.82) was also under 1:40.00. Coming in fifth exactly on the 1:40 mark was Italy’s Marco Maria Dolfin.

Greece’s Georgios Sfaltos (1:40.17), Vietnam’s Thanh Hai Do (1:40.96), and Brazil’s Adirano De Lim (1:45.04) will also race again tonight.

Women’s 100m Breaststroke SB5

Ukrainian teammates Viktoriia Savtsoca (1:41.03) and Yelyzaveta Mereshko (1:43.41) were the first two to the wall. China’s Lingling Song was third in 1:45.79.

Fanni Illes oh Hungary and Germany’s Verena Schott were also under 1:50 in 1:47.02 and 1:49.38.

Italy’s Emanuela Romano (1:50.90), Vietnam’s Thi Bich Nhu Trinh (1:52.06), and Austria’s Sabine Weber-Treiber (1:53.73) also secured lanes for finals.

Men’s 200m IM SM9

In a tight battle, Timothy Disken of Australia got to the wall ahead of Hungary’s Tamas Sors as the two finished in 2:18.86 and 2:18.97. Sors’ teammate Tamas Toth also qualified for the final, taking fourth in 2:20.34. Just ahead of him in third was Italy’s Federico Morlacchi in 2:20.15.

Australia put two more in the final as Brenden Hall and Timothy Hodge posted times of 2:21.74 and 2:22.23.

Britain’s James Crisp (2:22.72) and the USA’s Cody Bureau (2:23.95) round out the final.

Women’s 200m IM SM9

In one of the closer races of the morning, Amy Marren of Britain claimed the top seed in 2:37.01. China’s Ping Lin touched in 2:37.50 and Spain’s Sarai Gascon registered a 2:37.71 for the third seed.

Australia’s Madeleine Scott (2:38.04), Canada’s Katarina Roxon (2:38.75) and Spain’s Nuria Marques Soto (2:38.85) all finished within a second of each other.

Another second back China’s Jialing Xu (2:39.61) and Britain’s Claire Cashmore (2:39.68) will also race again tonight.

Men’s 100m Breaststroke SB13

Ukraine’s Oleksii Fedyna led the way this morning with a 1:04.98. Uzbekistan’s Firdavsbek Musabekov was second in 1:05.38 and the third seed went to Ihar Boki of Belarus in 1:06.79.

The rest of the field will need big drops tonight to be in medal contention. Australia’s Liam Bekric (1:09.17) and Brazil’s Guilherme Silva (1:12.85) were fourth and fifth.

Spain’s Ivan Salguero Oteiza (1:13.08), Greece’s Gerasimos Lignos (1:14.25) and Australia’s Sean Russo (1:14.32) finished sixth through eight.

Women’s 100m Breaststroke SB13

Rebecca Redfern took down the first Paralympic record of the morning. The English woman touched in 1:17.08. Just behind her was Elena Krawzow of Germany in 1:17.25. The USA’s Colleen Young posted a 1:19.10.

Belarus’ Anastasiya Zudzilava stopped the clock in 1:20.01. Just behind her were Australia’s Prue Watt (1:20.44) and Cyprus’ Karolina Pelendritou (1:20.72).

Uzbekistan’s Fotimakhon Amilova (1:21.20) and the USA’s Martha Ruether (1:21.74) also earned second swims.

Men’s 200m Freestyle S14

Daniel Fox turned in the first men’s Paralympic record of the morning with a 1:57.19. Just behind the Australian was Great Britain’s Thomas Hamer in 1:57.31 and Hong Kong’s Wai Lok Tang in 1:57.44. Fox’s teammate Liam Schluter (1:58.95) should also be in the medal hunt tonight.

Iceland’s Jon Margeir (2:00.01), Japan’s Keichi Nakajima (2:00.38), Korea’s Won Sang Cho (2:01.01), and Brazil’s Felipe Vila Real (2:01.11) also swim again tonight.

Women’s 200m Freestyle S14

Bethany Firth made it two in a row for downed Paralympic records, stopping the clock in 2:05.96. Her British teammate Jessica-Jane Applegate will head to finals in second with a 2:07.95. Sweden’s Pernilla Lindberg (2:13.74) and the Netherlands’ Marlou Van Der Kulk (2:14.63) were third and fourth.

Spain’s Michelle Alonso Morales (2:17.42) and Belarus’ Michelle Franssen (2:20.52) were fifth and sixth. Germany’s Janina Bruer (2:21.14) and Italy’s Xenia Francesca Palazzo (2:21.25) round out tonight’s final.

Men’s 200m IM SM10

Once the record breaking started this morning, it could not be stopped. Denys Dubrov led a Ukrainian trio in a new Paralympic mark of 2:09.23. Maksym Krypak (2:11.88) and Dmytro Vanzenko (2:13.66) followed. The Netherlands’ Olivier Van de Voort and Canada’s Benoit Huot also put themselves in medal contention tying in 2:13.98.

South Africa’s Kevin Paul (2:15.09), Canada’s Isaac Bouckley (2:15.67), and Belarus’ Sven Decaesstecker (2:16.16) also earned lanes in finals.

Women’s 200m IM SM10

Sophie Pascoe of New Zealand finished six seconds ahead this morning in 2:27.44. Canad’s Aurelie Rivard was second in 2:33.88 and the Netherlands’ Lisa Kruger finished third in 2:34.64.

Taking the fourth seed was Harriet Lee (2:35.90) of Great Britain. The Netherlands’ Chantalle Zijderveld (2:36.39) was fifth. Chinese teammates Meng Zhang (2:36.64) and Yi Chen (2:37.33) were sixth and eighth while Hungary’s Bianka Pap (2:36.78) was seventh in prelims.

Men’s 100m Freestyle S8

Two British swimmers and three Chinese made it into tonight’s final. Josef Craig touched in 58.73 for the top seed while his British teammate Oliver Hynd took fourth in 59.62. Yinan Wang (59.03), Guanglong Yang (59.33) and Maodang Song (59.68) finished second, third and fifth for China this morning.

Ukraine’s Bohdan Hrynenko (59.82), Mexico’s Luis Armando Andrade Guillen (1:01.12) and Canada’s Zack Mcallister (1:01.36) will also race again tonight.

Women’s 100m Freestyle S8

Jessica Long (1:06.07) of the USA finished ahead of a pair of Australians, Lakeisha Patterson (1:07.45) and Maddison Elliott (1:07.69). Stephanie Millward of Great Britain followed in 1:08.24.

Ceciia Jeronimo de Araujo (1:09.73) of Brazil was fifth. Canadians Morgan Bird (1:09.92) and Abi Tripp (1:10.30) were sixth and seventh. Long’s teammate Mallory Weggemann snuck into the final in 1:11.17.

Women’s 100m Breaststroke SB4

Norway’s Sarah Louise Rung was absolutely dominant, finishing in 1:45.46. Singapore’s Rui Si Theresa Goh touched second in 1:54.50 and Italy’s Giulia Ghiretti took the third seed in 1:55.58. Inbal Pezaro from Israel also finished under two minutes in 1:57.28.

Belarus’ Natallia Shavel (2:02.11) finished ahead of Chinese teammates Li Zhang (2:02.84) and Cuan Yao (2:05.00). Greece’s Chrysoula Antoniadou (2:06.92) rounds out the final.

Men’s 200m Freestyle S2

China’s Liangkang Zou set the lone world record of the morning, and took down the Paralympic mark with a 3:49.37. Ukraine’s Serhii Palamarchuk was just a half second behind him in 3:49.84.

China’s Benying Liu (4:00.02) and Yang Yang (4:13.42) were third and fourth. Ukraine’s Roman Bondarenko (4:38.94) finished fifth.

Greece’s Aristeidis Makrodimitris (5:03.56) and Irael’s Itzhak MAmistvalov (5:20.43) and Iad Josehp Shalabi (5:24.07) complete tonight’s final.
