2016 Junior Nationals: Day 3 Finals Live Recap

Women’s 400 Freestyle:

With a quick time of 4:10.87, Sandpiper’s Erica Sullivan held onto her top spot in the first event of the evening. Second behind her was La Mirada Armada’s Taylor Ault in 4:11.57. Following Sullivan and Ault was Morgan Tankersly out of Greater Tampa in 4:13.20.

Melissa Pish of Waves Bloomington touched fourth in 4:17.72. Fifth place went to the Fish’s Madelyn Donohoe in 4:18.22, who was followed by Mansfield’s Haley Yelle in 4:18.91.

Magnolia teammates Joy Field (4:20.00) and Kaitlynn Sims (4:21.90) rounded out the top eight.

Men’s 400 Freestyle:

Dropping another second from prelims, Fynn Minuth took home the Junior National title in 3:53.61. While Minuth won handily, the battle for second was tighter. Carmel’s Drew Kibler was the runner-up, touching out Johannes Calloni of Scarlet, 3:55.49 to 3:55.60. Fourth place went to Trident’s Patrick Callan in 3:56.92.

Taking the fifth spot was Scottsdale’s Aaron Apel with a time of 3:57.11. Just behind him was Michael Brinegar of Golden West in 3:57.98.

Cincinnati’s Joshua McDonald was seventh in 4:00.33, while Zach Yeadon of Alamo took eighth in 4:01.52.

Women’s 100 Butterfly:

In the women’s 100 butterfly, Austin’s Dakota Luther once again proved her dominance in the stroke, dipping under the minute barrier in 59.86 to win the race. Luther was closely followed by Fort Collins’ Coleen Gillilan in 1:00.01. Reagan Smith of Riptide took third in 1:00.46.

Fourth place went to Brea’s Alexis Margett, who touched in a time of 1:00.64. Trude Rothrock, representing Carmel, followed in 1:00.95.

Callie Dickinson of Tide took sixth place in 1:01.17. Just behind Dickinson were Socal’s Elise Garcia (1:01.24) and Brea’s Kenisha Liu (1:01.32) for seventh and eighth.

Men’s 100 Butterfly:

Michael Andrew held on to his top spot, winning the men’s butterfly in 53.18. Finishing second was Cody Bybee of the Dayton Raiders with a time of 54.07. Bybee just touched out Kingfish’s Camden Murphy, who finished in 54.14.

North Carolina’s Will Macmillan took fourth place in 54.49, just ahead of Multnomah’s Van Mathias in 54.53. Spencer Carl of Michigan Lakeshore finished in sixth place with a time of 54.73.

Seventh place went to Fort Collins’ Danny Kovac in 54.97. Bolles’ Ariel Spektor rounded out the top eight in 55.60.

Men’s 800 Freestyle Relay:

The Dayton Raiders took home a solid win in the 4×200 relay. They posted a time of 7:34.07, a full second ahead of the second place team, Austin Swim Club, who finished in 7:35.18. Taking third place was the Carmel Swim Club, posting a time of 7:36.05.
