Women’s 200 IM PARA

Aurelie Rivard won the event in the SM10 division with a time of 2:35.99.  Meanwhile, Katarina Roxon took second in a 2:41.66 to lead the SM9 division.

Justine Morrier rounded out the top three with a 2:43.26 that set the Canadian record for the SM14 division.

Abi Tripp, swimming in the SM8 division, also posted a Canadian record with a 2:58.77.

Men’s 200 IM PARA

Benoit Huot won the SM10 event with a time of 2:14.07.  That’s off his world record of 2:10.01 from 2012.

Gordie Michie set an SM14 Canadian record with a 2:17.80, while Isaac Bouckley finished third overall with a 2:18.84 in the SM10 division.

Nicolas-Guy Turbide won the SM13 with a 2:21.48, while Zach Zona took the SM8 with a 2:46.84.  Jean-Mic Lavalliere snared the SM7 division with a 2:50.85.

Women’s 200 free

Brittany MacLean unleashed a Canadian record time in the women’s 200-meter free by winning in 1:56.94.

That swim clipped Genevieve Saumur’s 2009 national record of 1:56.97, and clinched MacLean another spot on the Olympic roster.

Penny Oleksiak, the 15-year-old wonder this week in the 100 fly, clinched another Olympic berth with a 1:57.59 for second overall.

Katerine Savard (1:58.17) and Kennedy Goss (1:58.26) earned relay spots, while Taylor Ruck (1:58.67) and Jacqueline Keire (1:59.88) finished fifth and sixth.

Alyson Ackman (2:00.27), Meryn McCann (2:00.30), Rebecca Smith (2:01.11) and Samantha Cheverton (2:02.10) also competed in the finale.

Men’s 400 free

Ryan Cochrane earned a spot on his third Olympic squad after swimming in both the 2008 and 2012 Olympics.

Cochrane won the 400 free going away with a 3:48.54 that put him 14th in the world rankings.

Peter Brothers (3:51.26) and Jeremy Bagshaw (3:51.29), two of Cochrane’s Island Swimming training partners, placed second and third.  Both missed the FINA A cut to make the Olympic roster.

Tristan Cote (3:55.35), Keegan Zanatta (3:56.43), Eric Hedlin (3:57.44), Jon McKay (3:57.46), Carson Olafson (3:57.81), Colin Gilbert (3:58.77) and MacKenzie Hamill (3:59.68) also competed in the finale.

New Zealand’s Matthew Hutchins cleared the FINA A cut in the 400 free with a 3:50.12 to win the B final. Fellow New Zealander Kevin Litherland missed the cut with a 3:50.71 for second.

Women’s 100 breast

Kierra Smith charged her way to an Olympic berth in the 100 breast with a 1:06.93.  That swim moved her up to 10th in the world rankings.

Rachel Nicol, meanwhile, also cleared the FINA A cut with a 1:07.10 to earn 11th in the world and the second spot on the Canadian Olympic team.

Tera Van Beilen (1:07.89), Kelsey Wog (1:08.17), Erin Stamp (1:09.82), Ashley McGregor (1:09.82), Martha McCabe (1:10.25), Tianna Rissling (1:10.34), Bronwyn Pasloski (1:10.39) and Marie-Solei Jean-Lachapelle (1:10.68) also put up times in the finale.

Men’s 200 breast

Ashton Baumann punched his ticket to the Olympics in the men’s 200-meter breaststroke with a time of 2:10.69.  That swim cleared the FINA A cut and moved him to 16th in the world rankings.

Baumann is a second generation Olympian, following in the footsteps of Alex Baumann.

Jason Block finished second with a 2:13.21, well off the FINA A cut of 2:11.66 to make the Olympic squad.  Richard Funk placed third overall in 2:13.46.

Ryan Telford (2:14.87), James Dergousoff (2:14.88), James Guest (2:15.70), Nick Kostiuk (2:16.25), Eli Wall (2:16.48), Dillon Perron (2:18.01) and Connor Isings (2:19.38) claimed fourth through 10th in the finale.

Josh Prenot uncorked the fifth-fastest 200 breast in the world with a blistering 2:08.84 at the 2016 Canadian Trials.  He’s been faster with a 2:08.58 from prelims this morning that put him second in the world behind only Marco Koch’s 2:07.69.
