Shaine Casas Hits 1:36 200 Back, Curry Swims 42.0 100 Free at Art Adamson Invite

The Art Adamson Invitational concluded Friday from College Station, Texas with fast times across the board as three SEC champions put up impressive times. Texas A&M junior Shaine Casas concluded his strong meet with a 1:36.62 in the 200 backstroke, just missing his best time of 1:36.54 that he swam earlier this year that put him fourth all-time. Casas swam in the B-Final while A&M’s Ethan Gogulski took the official win at 1:44.51.

Last year’s SEC champ in the 100 freestyle, Brooks Curry of LSU won the 100 free tonight at 42.06 ahead of Texas A&M’s Coco Bratanov (42.62) as Curry was as fast as a 41.8 last season. LSU also got a win on Friday from Summer Stanfield in the 200 back (1:55.62) as well as freshman Mason Nyboer in the 1650 at 15:22.94.

A&M’s Andres Puente Bustamante, who was last year’s runner-up in the 200 breast at SECs, won that race tonight with a speedy 1:52.74 ahead of last night’s 100 winner Tanner Olson (1:54.72).

A&M freshman Chloe Stepanek grabbed her eighth win on the weekend with a fast 47.84 to win the 100 freestyle ahead of LSU’s Katarina Milutinovich (49.38). The Aggies fed off that swim to win both the 200 breast and 200 fly with Kylie Powers (2:11.79) and Taylor Pike (1:53.91) touching first in their respective events. Camryn Toney also won the 1650 with a 16:15.05.

Sophomore Jace Brown closed out the individual events with a 1:45.41 in the 200 butterfly for Texas A&M.

The Aggies closed the day with wins in both 400 free relays with the women taking it at 3:18.31 with the team of Emma Carlton (50.29), Stepanek (47.87), Bobbi Kennett (50.32) and Quah (49.83).

The men closed with a 2:51.56 with the team of Bratanov (42.55), Clayton Bobo (42.70), Mark Theall (42.76) and Kraig Bray (43.55).
