NCAA Women’s Championships: Walsh Sisters, Sims Aim For Third Wins on Final Day (Heat Sheets)

Three women have already won multiple individual titles at the NCAA Women’s Championships, and all three lead the way in events scheduled for Saturday in Athens, Ga., with Florida’s Bella Sims seeded first in the 200 backstroke, Virginia’s Gretchen Walsh going for another record in the 100 freestyle and Alex Walsh aiming for the eighth individual NCAA title of her remarkable career in the 200 breaststroke.

Sims will swim next to 2021 NCAA champion Phoebe Bacon in the 200 back heats, while Isabelle Stadden and Reilly Tiltmann highlight the second-to-last heat and Josephine Fuller and Kennedy Noble are in the heat before. In the 100 free, Gretchen Walsh and another Virginia swimmer, 100 breast NCAA champion Jasmine Nocentini, will race next to each other in the final heat after Florida’s Isabel Ivey and NC State’s Katharine Berkoff are one heat before that.

Alex Walsh races next to 100-meter breast Olympic gold medalist Lydia Jacoby in the final heat of the 200 breast, with 100 breast runnerup Mona McSharry seeded third and in the heat before alongside Texas’ Anna Elendt. Finally, as Texas tries to mount a furious comeback to catch up to the high-flying Cavaliers, the Longhorns are seeded first, second and fourth in the 200 butterfly. Defending champion Emma Sticklen and teammate Olivia Bray are in the final heat while Kelly Pash races before them.
