USC Women's Water Polo Signs Two Top Players -- December 4, 2002
LOS ANGELES, Dec. 4. TWO top high school players signed letters-of-intent to play women's water polo at USC for the 2004 season, head coach Jovan Vavic announced.
Erika Figge (Dove Canyon/Santa Margarita HS) and Brittany Hayes (Santa Ana/Foothill HS) both played this year with the United States Junior National Team that won the gold medal at the Junior Pan American Games.
Here are brief biographies on each player:
Erika Figge, Utility, Dove Canyon (Santa Margarita HS) -- Figge has served as the team captain for the past two seasons at Santa Margarita High in Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif. She earned team most valuable player honors in her 2001 sophomore season and team offensive most valuable player honors in her 2000 freshman season. She is also serving as the team captain this season for the swimming team.
Brittany Hayes, Driver, Santa Ana (Foothill HS) -- Hayes earned NISCA All-America first team honors last season and was named Los Angeles Times All-Orange County Player of the Year. She was named tri-MVP of the Century League and earned All-CIF and Orange County Register first team honors.
The Trojans finished the 2002 season with a 26-4 overall record and a share of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation regular season championship with a 10-1 mark.
