Texas Diving To Host All-American Invitational -- January 6, 1998

From Penny Abrahams of UT - AUSTIN, TEXAS- The University of Texas will host the All-American Diving Invitational on Wednesday through Sunday, January 7-11 at the Jamail Texas Swimming Center on the UT campus. The competition features collegiate and open competitors from across the United States and Mexico. Admission to all sessions is free.

Events begin each day at 10 a.m., with collegiate action taking place on both Wednesday, January 7, and Thursday, January 8. Headlining in the men's collegiate competition is All-America performer Brian Gillooly, a senior at the University of Miami, who won the 10-meter platform at the 1996 NCAA Championships and is a U.S. National Team member; Rio Ramirez, a sophomore diver at Miami, who won the one-meter springboard at the 1997 NCAA Championships; and Miami senior Chris Mantilla, a 1994 World Championship competitor and the three-meter champion at the 1996 NCAAs. Competing in the women's collegiate competition is Angie Trostel of Cincinnati, who placed third at the 1996 U.S. Olympic Trials, and Kim Powers, a freshman at Stanford who finished fourth at the Junior World Championships.
