Germany Downs World Short Course 200 Medley Relay Record

HELSINKI, Finland, December 7. THE German quartet of Helge Meeuw, Johannes Neumann, Thomas Rupprath and Jens Schreiber shaved .4 seconds off the world short course record at the European Short Course Championships held in Helsinki, Finland.

The Germans clocked a 1:34.06 to down their country's previous global standard of 1:34.46 set on Dec. 11, 2003.

Meeuw started the record race off with a 23.66 first backstroke split, before Neumann clocked a 26.86 breaststroke split. Then, Rupprath notched a 22.30 butterfly leg, before Schreiber anchored a 21.24 effort in freestyle.

Although, the record does stand on somewhat shaky ground – since the European Short Course Championships are the only place the event is swum.
