World Championships: Hu Jia Prevails on 10-Meter Platform; Meca Wins 25K Open-Water Swim

MONTREAL, Canada, July 23. FOLLOWING up on his Olympic gold in the 10-meter platform diving competition, China’s Hu Jia added a world championship to his resume on Saturday, as he prevailed on the tower. Hu handed China its fourth diving gold medal of the week, behind a score of 698.01. His victory was guaranteed on his final entry.

Jose Antonio Guerra earned the silver medal with a total of 691.14 points, marking his nation’s first diving medal in World Champs action. Gleb Galperin finished in the bronze position, soaring from sixth to third on his last dive. The Russian finished with a score of 656.19. Yang Jinghui opened the door for Galperin when the Chinese diver struggled on his fourth effort.

Spain’s David Meca won the gold medal in the men’s 25K open-water swim, as he completed the distance in a time of 5:00:21.4. Australia’s Brendan Capell picked up the silver medal in 5:00:23.6 and bronze was secured by Bulgaria’s Petar Stoychev.
