Women’s 800 Freestyle Relay Swedish Record Downed on First Night of Swedish National Championships

HALMSTAD, Sweden, July 25. THE Vasby Simsallskap team of Petra Granlund (2:02.03), Malin Svahnstrom (2:03.48), Josefin Lillhage (1:59.58) and Ida Sandin (2:04.20) broke the Swedish national record in the women's 800 freestyle relay to open long course meter swimming at the Swedish National Championships.

The quartet clocked a time of 8:09.29 to knock nearly three seconds from the club's previous record time of 8:12.08 set on July 5, 2006.

Notably, the Lass Lag foursome of Rebecka Palm, Sara Crifalt, Astrid Armgarth and Sanna Ohgren from the Swedish junior national record with a fifth-place time of 8:28.42 in the same event.

Erik Samuelsson touched out Axel Pettersson in the men's 400 IM for the first title of the meet, as Samuelsson clocked a 4:30.07 against Pettersson's 4:30.68.

Therese Alshammar, who set the world record in the 50 fly earlier this year, continued to demonstrate her sprinting prowess with a winning time of 24.55 in the 50 free. The time fell just short of her best time this year, a 24.54 in June that made her the third-fastest in the world this year.

Jonas Andersson captured the next title up for grabs, this time with a 28.51 readout in the men's 50 breast, while Elin Harnebrandt touched out Natasha Sundin for the women's 50 back crown, 30.30 to 30.39.

The final individual title went to Pontus Renholm, who claimed a close conquest of Jens Pettersson, 26.42 to 26.87, for the men's 50 back title.
