White Trumps Green, Both Men and Women, In Ohio U. Swim Scrimmage

ATHENS, OH, October 20. WHITE prevailed over the Green in the Ohio University Bobcats' intra-squad scrimmage recently at the Ohio Aquatics Center by a final tally of 250-162, per reports from the school.

Michaela Hahn-Lawson (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside) had a breakout night, winning all four events in which she participated. Representing the White team, the freshman won the 100 breaststroke (1:07.66), the 400 freestyle (4:06.30), the 200 freestyle (1:55.42), and was part of the winning 200 medley relay.

Fellow freshman Joan Carpenter (Birmingham, Ala. /Mountain Brook) made a statement as well, winning the 50 freestyle (25.00) and taking second in the 100 freestyle (54.99), and anchoring the winning 200 freestyle relay team.

Other notable performances on the women's side include Becky McGaughey's (Nicholasville, Ky. /West Jessamine) first place finish in the 100 freestyle (54.69) and second place effort in the 200 freestyle (1:57.08). The senior also placed fourth in the 400 freestyle (4:19.09). Melissa Dunn (Noblesville, Ind. /Noblesville) was part of both the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay teams, took third in the 200 individual medley (2:15.88), and third in the 100 backstroke (1:00.12).

There were only two repeat winners on the men's side. Donald Jupp (Stow, Ohio/Stow) took first in both the 50 (22.44) and 100 (51.11) freestyle events while Brian Teske (Dayton, Ohio/Centerville) won the 200 individual medley (2:03.86), the 100 breaststroke (1:00.77), and swam on the winning 200 freestyle relay.

Greg Fletcher (Medina, Ohio/Brunswick) won the 100 butterfly (54.62), finished second in the 200 freestyle (1:49.77), and was part of the winning 200 freestyle relay team. James Chilcote (Mason, Ohio/Mason) captured the 100 backstroke (56.14) and was part of the winning 200 freestyle relay.

Final scores by team were, for the women, White 129-Green 82. For the men, scores were White 121-Green 80.

The teams will be back in action for the second and final exhibition of the season when the Alumni/Varsity Relays are held at the Aquatics Center on Oct. 23, at 10:00 a.m.
