Venezuelan Open Championships: Octavio Alesi, Albert Subirats, Cristian Quintero Among Top Swimmers on Day One

MARACAIBO, Venezuela, May 17. THE Venezuelan Open Championships being held in Maracaibo kicked off with the first day of finals action.

Octavio Alesi claimed the men's 50 fly title in 23.95, while Albert Subirats took second in 24.04. Roberto Gomez wound up third overall in 25.18.

Cristian Quintero raced to victory in the men's 200 free with a 1:49.66. Daniele Tirabassi (1:50.50) and Marcos Lavado (1:52.26) finished second and third.

Mercedes Toledo cruised to victory in the women's 50 breast with a 32.83. Johana Barreiro (35.05) and Roanyi Herrera (35.14) placed second and third.

Alejandro Gomez topped the men's 800 free in 8:12.47, while Andy Arteta (8:27.53) and Miguel Perez (8:28.75) earned second and third. Annagrazia Bonsanti won the women's 400 free in 4:27.77, while Florencia Melo picked up second in 4:28.54. Angela Cicenia (4:32.91) earned third in 4:32.91.

Luis Rojas snared the men's 200 back title in 2:03.59. Jesus Lopez (2:07.36) and Adolfo Delgado (2:09.63) completed the podium in the event. Erika Torrella clipped Elimar Barrios, 1:01.67 to 1:01.69, for the women's 100 fly title. Wendy Rodriguez placed third in 1:01.82.

After clocking a 1:01.87 during prelims, Miguel Ferreira won the men's 100 breast final in 1:03.07. Carlos Claverie (1:04.32) and Kenek Gil (1:05.72) earned second and third. Daniela Victoria placed first in the women's 200 IM with a 2:19.85. Eliana Barrios (2:25.83) and Maria Ramirez (2:27.80) rounded out the top three.
