MOUNT HOOD, Oregon, July 21. The second night of long course competition at the Mount Hood sectionals saw Missy Franklin notch two more victories to add to her 800 freestyle win on Tuesday.
Franklin, representing the Colorado Stars, started the evening with a win in the 100 freestyle. Her time of 56.09 put her ahead of teammate Caroline Piehl's silver medal-winning time of 56.95. Shelby Bull of Wyoming Aquatics was third with a 57.39. Franklin also won the 200 back, touching in 2:12.17. She was well ahead of the pack for the entire race, leaving more than two body lengths between her and runner-up A. Malazdrewicz the Evergreen Swim Team, who finished second in 2:15.38. Finishing third was Dannica Brennan of King Aquatic Club with a 2:17.52.
Tyler Messerschmidt of YMCA Westside Silverfins won the men's 100 free in 51.30, just touching out Sebastien Bodet of King Aquatics, who finished in 51.35. Chris Pickard of Arizona Marlins was third in 51.66.
Christine Wixted kept the win streak going for Colorado Stars with a win in the women's 200 breast with a time of 2:32.66. Kathryn Johnson of North Jeffco Swim Club was second in 2:34.82 and Alison Soelter was third in 2:36.18.
Rory Buck of Spokane Waves took the men's 200 breast in a meet record time of 2:17.95, breaking Michel DeCarolis' mark of 2:19.56. Brandon Fischer of Wyoming Aquatics was second in a time of 2:20.54 and Tanner Krall was third in 2:20.92.
In the men's 200 back, Jared Markham of the Greenwood Tiger Sharks won with a time of 2:04.67. Major Robinson of Swim Utah was second in 2:05.92 and Nick Blank of Spokane Area Swimming placed third in 2:06.11.
Chris Pickard led the field of the men's 200 fly from the start and won easily with a 2:02.75. Andrew Torres won the silver medal with a 2:05.61, and Eric Bonicelli of Swim Utah got the bronze with a 2:06.43.
Results of the women's 200 fly and the 200 medley relays were not immediately made available.
