MOUNT PLEASANT, South Carolina, October 8. THE University of South Carolina picked up a big verbal commitment on Tuesday as Travis Morrin decided to make the trek up I-26 to Columbia for college. Morrin, currently a senior at Wando High School and a member of the Mount Pleasant Swim Club, should offer a big boost to the Gamecocks’ distance group.
Morrin posted on his commitment to his CollegeSwimming.com page. He told Swimming World some of the reasons for picking the Gamecocks. “I decided to commit to South Carolina because of their nice facilities, great coaches, and the new direction their program is heading. I’m really excited to become a part of a rising program that I think will shock some people!”
Morrin, a 6-7 middle-distance threat, brings an already impressive slate of times to Columbia. Heading into his senior season, he owns strong performances in the 500 (4:30.78), 1000 (9:23.00), and 1650 free (15:37.51). He also has a strong long course resume, having competed in the 400 (4:04.12), 800 (8:29.26), and 1500 free (16:05.69) at the Speedo Junior Nationals in Irvine this past summer.
