BEIJING – Tom Shields, who finished second in the second cluster of the FINA World Cup, looks to have pulled out of the Beijing stop after missing the 200-meter fly this morning.

Shields was slated to compete in the 100 and 200 fly as per the heat sheets released today, but appears to have withdrawn from the meet.

Swimming World has been unable to get any reportable information from the Shields’s camp other than it is due to an undisclosed ailment that could be handled shortly.

Shield is currently second (223.5) in the overall FINA World Cup points race behind Chad le Clos (282) with Daniel Gyurta standing third heading into Beijing with 212 points.
