One such normal event was The Haifa Sprint Cup, held this weekend in the picturesque Israeli seaside town of Haifa. HAIFA, Israel, May 28. UKRAINE'S Denis Sylantiev won two events to highlight competition at the Haifa Sprint Cup yesterday.
The Ukrainian ace flew to victories in the (long course) 50 (24.97) and 100 meter fly (53.70). His 100 meter effort earned him the male "Performance of the Meet" award.
Israel's Anya Gostamelski won all three women's backstroke events, setting national records in all thyree: 50 back (30.51p), 100 (1:04.03) and 200 (2:18.32).
Vered Borochovski, who in Moscow became the first Israeli woman to win a medal at a World Championship, won the sprint fly events in fast in-season times of 27.75 for the 50 and 1:01.86 for the 100. Her 50 fly performance earned the 17 year-old the female
"Performance of the Meet" award.
Other noteworth times:
* Vladimir Nikolaychuk (UKR) upset Israel's Yoav Gath in the 100m backstroke, 57.08 to 57:59, and also took the 200 back in 2:03.49.
* In the women's 50 free, Gostamelski's 27.21 edged Maya Finkler's 27.30.
* The women's 50 back was won by 14 year-old Or Melzer at 30.70. Gostamelski, who set a national record in the morning, was second in 30.76.
* Israel's Inbal Levavi took the 200 IM in 2:22.91.
The Israeli National team will take part in two international meets during the Mare Nostrum tour: in Canet (France) and Barcelona (Spain).
