Swimming World Five Star Emily Kelly Chooses College

PHOENIX, Arizona, October 8. SWIMMING World five star Emily Kelly now knows where she is heading for college after her senior year.

Kelly, who swims for the Long Island Aquatic Club and Sacred Heart Academy, is headed south to the University of North Carolina. Kelly is a distance freestyle swimmer who would have scored points last year at the 2009 NCAA Division I Championships with a 16:07.43 in the 1650-yard free. She also owns B cuts in the 200-yard free (1:47.90) and 500-yard free (4:46.41). In long course swimming, she owns senior national cuts in the 100-meter free (57.04), 200-meter free (2:02.38), 400-meter free (4:14.50) and 800-meter free (8:40.88).

"I chose UNC because it is the best place for me to excel academically, and with my swim career," Kelly told Swimming World. "I want to be a speech pathologist, and UNC has a tremendous program. I knew UNC had a excellent distance group, which would definitely help me to improve. What I found out during my visit was that the team is extremely close and they made me feel very welcome. I just feel like I'll be part of one of the best teams in the country, in one of the most beautiful places in the country, Chapel Hill, NC."
