NEW COMMIT: Dasha Cocol (Daria in USA Swimming’s database) of Saratoga, California, has announced her verbal commitment to San Jose State University. Cocol is a senior at Prospect High School. She does her year round swimming with Santa Clara Swim Club.

She said of her decision to join the Spartans,

“I am excited to announce that I have verbally committed to continue to swimming at San Jose State University! This would not be possible without the support of my family, friends, teammates, and coaches. I thank you all for helping me get to this point. I am excited to start this journey as a Spartan!”

Despite battling through mono junior year, Cocol still finished sixth in the 500 free at the 2017 CIF Central Coast Section Championships last May. At Futures this summer she was a member of Santa Clara’s fifth place 800 freestyle relay.

Her best short course times are:

  • 200 Free 1:52.05
  • 500 Free 4:59.11
  • 1000 Free 10:25.32
  • 1650 Free 17:24.01

At last year’s Mountain West Conference Championships Cocol would have earned a C final swim in the 200 freestyle. She’ll walk into a great 200 freestyle training group. Gabriella Heng (1:52.08) was 22nd last year as a freshman. Sophomore Kendal Guy (1:52.68 in prelims) finished 24th. Cocol will likely be in consideration for an 800 freestyle relay spot in her first year. Cocol would also have been a 500 free C finalist last year. She also would have scored a few points in the 1650 as well.
