Ryan Lochte was on pace to win the 200 freestyle at the FINA world championships, but the physical pain was too great to overcome, and he was fifth in the final. After the race, he said things started to go south around the 170-meter mark.

“I started going into a scramble,” he said. “As soon as I popped up (after his underwater kicks on the last length), I took two good strokes, and all of a sudden something happened and … it just hit me.”

But, in typical Lochte fashion, he shrugged off the swim with an “Oh, well.”

His new weapon, which consisted of kicking on his back underwater after each turn before turning onto his stomach and surfacing at 15 meters, worked well for Lochte. He was even with the field at each turn then surfaced about a half-body length ahead.

“I just got to go back in and start training harder to get ready for Rio,” he said while still gasping for air about four minutes after the race. “That’s all I can do.”

Great swim. He will have to tweak his under waters a bit for Rio-maybe a 2 less kicks underwater per turn so he want go into oxygen debt…

I wish I had half the ability to shrug off a bad race that Lochte does!

He’s not the only one who has to come back and train harder for Rio! Judging by these championshios, they all need to head home now and train, with the exception of Katie.

I’m pretty sure that they all have been training. You don’t know what went down over there with them, so back off. Try being more supportive, unless you want to go over there and help them out yourself. http://www.straitstimes.com/sport/swimming-clary-slams-us-media-for-kazan-negativity-amid-teams-slump
