RISE Elite Athletes Know How To… Train The Brain

Rise Elite

Rebecca Soni and Caroline Burckle, USA Olympic Medalists and Founders of RISE Elite, have started a mentoring program for young athletes. Swimming World will be publishing a series of articles called “RISE Elite Athletes Know How To…” in 2016. The following is an introductory article on their goals.

We all look up to them, those elite athletes that cover the pages of our instagram feed. We mimic their suits and workout clothes, their training and dryland routines, even the funny things they do, in hopes of one day being one of these elite athletes. But there is one thing missing. We need to start mimicking their mentality, their mindset, their thoughts and their perspective.

Elite Athletes Know How To Train The Brain – A task which first and foremost starts with knowing that such a silly thing (brain training, champion’s mindset, mind work, whatever you want to call it) actually exists! We all have the capability to choose our thoughts, a power that COULD lead us to ultimate success in everything we strive for, if only you believed it was possible!

We’ve heard all the clichés: “Think it and you can become it”, “Dream big”, “Reach for the stars”, “Believe in yourself”,  yet those phrases are most often just not quite enough to get us to make a change. A little motivation is great to get your feet wet. But we are talking more than motivation here.  We are giving you a peak into the ultimate power to tap true and genuine raw capability and to become the highest version of yourself to go above and beyond anything you’ve previously thought possible. THAT is the power of the mind. That’s what we seek. That’s why we are here.

We all have our own story. How we got here… where we are going… what’s next… the whole nine-yards. Without the belief in this power of mind and without realizing it, most of us are followers of our own story. We go with the flow, follow life where it takes us and see what happens. Take control of your power – it is YOURS already, after all – and suddenly you’re in the driver’s seat. What happens next is up to you, and we can’t wait to see where you go.

KEY TAKAWAY: It starts with simply knowing that there is a power within us, simply being more and more aware that this power exists. We’ll take you to the next steps, next time!

Very interesting. I think this is especially great for large teams where coach to swimmer ratio is high and coaches just don’t have a lot of personal time to get in with their swimmers. Question though, are the coaches in any way involved in any part of the process?
