Larkin became the first man under 1:46 with a winning time of 1:45.63. That swim broke the previous world record of 1:46.11 set by Arkady Vyatchanin back in 2009.

Incidentally, that swim also broke the Commonwealth record of 1:47.08 set by South Africa’s George Du Rand in 2009, while also crushing Larkin’s Australian and All-Comers record of 1:47.72 from last year.

According to the Australian’s Nicole Jeffery, Larkin is the first Australian swimmer to break an individual world record in six years.
