Phelps Named Athlete of the Year by SI for Kids

ANN ARBOR, Michigan, Jan. 18. HE's already been honored as Swimming World's 2004 "World Swimmer of the Year" and USA Swimming's "Swimmer of the Year."

Now, Sports Illustrated for Kids has chosen 19 year-old Michael Phelps as its "Athlete of the Year," the first time a swimmer has been accorded the honor. Phelps won six gold and two bronze medals at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, setting a world record in the 400 IM.
