GOLD COAST, Australia, August 21.

USA’s Katie Ledecky, the world-record holder with an 8:11.00 from June at The Woodlands Senior Invite, nearly upended that time again as she raced to an 8:11.35 for the win tonight.  She absolutely demolished the Australian All-Comers record of 8:18.52 previously set by Kate Ziegler way back in 2007, and crushed Janet Evans’ 1989 meet record of 8:16.22.  Nearly every single time Ledecky sets foot in a pool, she’s rewriting history.  Ledecky’s consistency is downright scary as she had the exact same final 50 in her world record as well as her swim tonight.

That’s Ledecky’s second victory of the night after having already won the 200 free earlier this evening.

Ledecky’s World Record Splits:

28.91, 59.44 (30.53), 1:30.49 (31.05), 2:01.48 (30.99), 2:32.32 (30.84), 3:03.42 (31.10), 3:34.34 (30.92), 4:05.70 (31.36), 4:36.56 (30.86), 5:07.79 (31.23), 5:38.67 (30.88), 6:09.64 (30.97), 6:31.81 (22.17?), 7:10.87 (39.06?), 7:41.53 (30.66), 8:11.00 (29.47)
